Call for One Open Ph.D. position



in the frame of OPUS 13 project entitled “Understanding the mechanism of lignin-based model molecules selective conversions to phenolics via ultrasound-assisted heterogeneous photocatalysis”  (project nr 2017/25/B/ST8/01592)  funded by the National Science Centre in Poland.

Job title: PhD student (First Stage Researcher – R1)

Activities, in which the applicant will be involved are: understanding the mechanistic aspects of ultrasound-assisted photocatalytic method for the selective oxidation of lignin-inspaired complex model molecules and the study of photocatalysts performances under such specific sonophotocatalytic environment. Expectations from the candidates, list of required documents and contest procedure:

  1. Passion for natural sciences, a strong motivation for scientific work and open mind, willingness of carrying out interdisciplinary research.
  2. A university degree in chemistry or physics; achieved professional title of magister (or equivalent) obtained no earlier than three years ago or master thesis with a designated approaching date of defense.
  3. CV
  4. Copy of MSc diploma
  5. Distinctions granted by virtue of scientific research, grants, awards and scientific experience acquired outside your own research work place in the country or abroad; participation in workshops and scientific trainings; participation in research projects.
  6. Experience in conducting scientific research in the field of catalysis, organic synthesis and materials characterization.
  7. English knowledge to the degree necessary for independent scientific work.
  8. At least the opinions of two independent research scientists, specialists in the field of chemistry and related sciences.
  9. Very welcome are publications in reputable publishing houses / scientific journals.

  • The best applicants who meet the competition requirements will be invited for an interview (on-site or online)  for the „Warszawska Szkoła Doktorska Nauk Ścisłych i BioMedycznych” [Warsaw Doctoral School “Warsaw-4-PhD” http://warsaw4phd.pl] (It will be carried out between 1-12 July 2019 at the IPC-PAS). The applicants will additionally be required to submit their application to the online recruitment system between 4th and 21st of June 2019.
  • The scholarship will be awarded in accordance with the the "Rules of granting scholarships to young scientists in research projects" (the National Science Centre, OPUS-13,  https://www.ncn.gov.pl/sites/default/files/pliki/uchwaly-rady/2016/uchwala96_2016-zal1.pdf ) and in accordance with the Employment policy of the Institute of Physical Chemistry PAS (http://ichf.edu.pl/employment_policy.pdf )
  • The Commission will take into account the following criteria:
    1. competences of candidates for specific tasks in a research project,
    2. previous scientific achievements of candidates,
    3. awards and distinctions of the candidate resulting from the conducted research.
  • The commission will evaluate applications on a point scale.
  • The scientific scholarship in the project will accorded to the first person who will receive the highest number of points (in the case that the winner of the competition resigns from signing the scholarship agreement, the scholarship will be awarded to the second person from the ranking list).
  • The results of the competition are made public.
  • Scheduled date of starting work within the Project: October 1st, 2019
